What is a Zero Speed Switch?

Control Concepts, Inc. manufactures UL approved electro-mechanical, electronic and inductive proximity speed switches. These devices are shaft or pulse driven and can indicate or control the rotary motion of the equipment they are attached to. Our zero speed switch devices are widely used as interlocks on conveyor systems of all types. When driven from a critical shaft, a zero speed switch can be electronically connected to:

  • Actuate a signal or alarm device
  • Break a circuit to a motor
  • Make a circuit to start auxiliary equipment
  • Make or break a circuit to other electrical devices
  • Signal a control station PLC

Circuits make or break upon deviation from the normal operating speed of the critical shaft, such as:

  • Stoppage due to mechanical failure
  • Slowing down due to overload
  • Speed change due to normal machine cycling
  • Over speed or reverse rotation

Zero speed switches can be interlocked as part of a Material Flow System to insure that if one machine fails, the entire operation will stop until the situation is corrected and an expensive and time-consuming pile-up of material is avoided or an unsafe situation resolved.

Our Speed Switch devices are frequently used by our clients as replacements for previously installed, typically more expensive products from other manufacturers such as Rockwell Automation / Allen-Bradley and Hubbell Industrial Controls.  Most of our Speed Switch devices are also available for shipment the same or next day an order is received.

If the Zero Speed Switch devices you are familiar with were purchased from Winterburn Manufacturing or are referred to as a DAZIC Speed Switch, you have come to the right place — that would be us!
